Welcome back to Term 3!!

I hope you have all had a well rested break and have enjoyed your holiday. This term we have so many exciting things to look forward to......

  • Book week (Kiwi Country theme) - Monday to Friday Week 2
  • Cross Country - Week 3 Wednesday, save date Friday
  • Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme
  • New Inquiry topic - 'How the world works' learning about simple machines.
  • Ag Day - last day of term

Information about Book Week 2016

Each class in the school will be doing an author study on a kiwi writer. Room 15 is doing their author study on 'Lynley Dodd'. She is the writer of all of the Hairy Maclary series. We will also be creating some kiwiana art work to display in the classroom and library. We will be buddy reading with classes in the school and will have other teachers coming in to our class to read to us.

There are two authors coming to visit our school to do storytelling on Thursday and Friday. They are Lewis Carol and Stu Duval. The cost for this is $6 per child. Please bring this to school by early next week.

On Friday we have a book parade. All students from each class must dress as a book character from their favourite book and bring this book with them. We will assemble on the top astroturf at 9am and will parade down to the school hall at 9.15am. Each class will then have the opportunity to come up and parade around the stage. Finalists from the juniors and seniors will be invited back onto the stage and prizes will be awarded.

Digital Citizenship Day - Term 2

On Friday we had our Digital Citizenship Day. We learnt about how to be safe, responsible and respectful online.  In our first session we discussed who do we trust when we feel unsafe online. We feel safe asking Mrs Eade, an adult in the classroom and our parents at home. We always ask permission first before use a device at school and at home. We make sure we only go on the apps and websites that are for children. Room 15 now know that everywhere we go online we leave a 'digital footprint' behind, so we must be careful when searching information and entering our passwords. We also learnt how to use google and kiddle (kids google) to search for information safely. Here are some photos of us using our chrome books and ipads in the classroom.

Spelling and reading with our buddy class Room 8

Here are some photos of us with Room 8. They come and see us every Friday to test us on our spelling words. Afterwards we get to read to them or share some of our learning. These photos are from last term when we had our white out mufti day.

We have found a really good search engine to help us. Its called Kiddle, google for kids. Some children have also issued a book from the school library to help them.
